How soon can you apply for your Provisional licence?
You can apply for your provisional Licence up to 3 months before your 17th Birthday however, you will still have to wait until your birthday before you can take your theory test.
How soon can you take the Theory Test?
You can take your Theory Test as soon as your Provisional Licence becomes valid on your 17th birthday so long as you have applied for it beforehand. You could get started on your Theory now as it takes quiet a time to learn everything you need to know to save money and pass first time.
The usual minimum age for driving cars is 17. But if you receive the higher rate of the mobility component of Disability Living Allowance, you can drive at 16.

If you are aged between 16 and 24, Motability may be able to offer financial support towards the cost of driving lessons.

Mopeds and tractors
If you want to ride a moped you can take your theory test when you are 16, but again you must make sure you have completed compulsory basic training (CBT) and have a valid provisional licence.
If you are 16 and already have a licence for an agricultural vehicle or a moped, this will give you provisional entitlement to drive a car when you are 17. See link above for more DSA information
